Members of the teams that won this
year's edition of the MTN Lagos Street
Soccer Championship, ABS Street Team
of Mosan Okunola LCDA and Triumph
Football Academy of Lagos Island East,
have returned from their training tour
of the United Arab Emirate.
The teams, which have a unique
opportunity to be part of the Nigerian
fans who watched the Golden Eaglets
defeating the Mexican team, in the final
match of the U-17 FIFA World Cup, at
the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium,
Abu Dhabi, UAE, were also on an
intensive training tour, in the Arab
Emirates, to improve on their football
skills and technical know-how as well as
gain quality international exposure.
Meanwhile, the teams have continued
to relish their experiences during the
tour, not just the opportunity given to
them, to be part of the spectators at the
U-17 FIFA World Cup Final, but also the
intensive training session they had at
the Football Centre, Al Quoz Area,
Dubai.
Speaking on his experience at the
centre, the goalkeeper of the ABS Team,
Idowu Morotayo expressed his
satisfaction with the training. "In fact, I
haven't passed through any training as
rigorous as this. The facilities were
superb and the instructors were also
fantastic. Everything I have learnt there
will surely, positively, guide me through
my career" he declared.
In her own view, a member of the
winners of the female category,
TriumphFootballAcademy, Adeshola
Opeyemi, who has just been called into
the camp of the Nigerian female U-21
team, the Falconets, has said that the
training was unprecedented in her life.
"I am very happy to be part of this and I
must be very grateful to MTN. The
experience has been wonderful. I had a
quality training session and the
academic aspect of it can also not be
taken for granted, as the tutor made us
to understand what we are supposed to
do, to be mentally alert as well as
medically fit to be successful
footballers. It was a great experience"
she noted.
