Return to our fold, PDP tells rebel govs

Following the upholding of the
leadership of the Peoples Democratic
Party under the National Chairman of
Dr. Bamanga Tukur by the Independent
National Electoral Commission, the
party has called on the seven governors
in the camp of the Abubakar Baraje-led
faction to return to its fold.
Governors in the New PDP are Rotimi
Amaechi (Rivers); Rabiu Kwankwaso
(Kano); Murtala Nyaho(Adamawa); Sule
Lamido(Jigawa); Abdulfatah Ahmed
(Kwara); Babangida Aliyu(Niger) and
Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
Notable among members of the faction
are a former Governor of Nasarawa
State, Abdulahi Adamu; a former
Governor of Kwara State, Sen.
Mohammed Lafiagi; a former Governor
of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye
Oyinlola; a former Governor of Kwara
State, Sen. Bukola Saraki; the Deputy
National Vice Chairman of the party in
North-West, Amb. Kazaure, and the
former Deputy National Chairman of the
party, Dr. Sam Jaja.
Effort by the faction to gain recognition
by INEC was rejected as the electoral
body said it only recognised the party,
led by Tukur.
The PDP, in a statement by the National
Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh,
on Friday, said the position of INEC had
laid to rest all contentions regarding the
leadership of the party.
Metuh said, "However, we wish to state
categorically that this is not a time for
us to gloat or preen ourselves over the
victory.
" We must use this window of
opportunity to engender true
reconciliations, put all the issues behind
us and move ahead as one big united
family that we are.
"In this light, we call on all our
aggrieved brothers to relegate all
personal interests and return to the fold
so that we can ward off all external
aggressions and forge a common
formidable political front."
