LAMPARD: ON THE UP

The second-half performance at
Tottenham put Frank Lampard in an
optimistic mood for the season ahead,
believing Chelsea are quickly reaching a
level to challenge for honours.
The Blues may have fallen short of
taking all three points at White Hart
Lane but the vice-captain saw the whole
side respond well having been a goal
down and second best in the first half
on Saturday. It made for an enthralling
local derby.
'The way we started the second half we
got momentum, we got our goal and
went through and created a couple of
chances, and on another day we could
have scored and won the game,' said
Lampard.
'There is a great atmosphere there to be
fair, and it was two top teams near the
top of the table, two big rivals and no
one wants to lose the game. There was
some fast football, some tackles and
everything you want to see in a game.
'Tottenham is a very difficult place to
play and they have spent a lot of money
in the summer so we were ready for a
tough game. We didn't win but in the
second half the speed of our game was
brilliant and we upped our level from
the first half for sure.
'We all changed. Juan Mata came on
and made a difference and the other 10
players on the pitch, we upped our level
as well from the first half to the second.'
With Chelsea and Tottenham sharing a
point and Arsenal winning away at
Swansea, it gave the Gunners a four-
point advantage over us, but that is not
concerning Lampard and his colleagues
with only six weeks gone in the season.
'There is a long way to go. We did want
to win the game but a draw is not a
terrible result away from home there
and now we will wait and see what the
others do.
'We have had a tough start to the
season. We went to Man United and
drew, came to Tottenham and drew and
with a few new players and the
manager having come in, I think we are
really going to start to find our form. On
Saturday, particularly in the second
half, we saw the spirit and the desire
and a lot of quality in the team.'
