Two Men Accused Of Stealing From Paul Walker’s Car Crash Wreckage
Two men have been accused of stealing
from the vehicle that Paul Walker and
Roger Rodas crashed in.
Prosecutors filed charges against the
two men after they allegedly stole a
part from the wrecked Porsche Carrera
GT after the car accident on Nov. 30.
According to Deputy District Attorney
Sera Boyadjian, both men have been
charged with one felony count of grand
theft of personal property. Jameson
Brooks Witty and Anthony Edward
Janow have also been charged with two
misdemeanor counts each of destroying
evidence and "resisting, obstructing
and delaying a peace officer."
Janow is due to surrender on Tuesday,
while Witty already posted bail and is
expected to face a judge on Jan. 3,
2014.
Prosecutors claim that on the evening
of the fatal crash, both men stole one of
the roof's panels from a tow truck
carrying the demolished vehicle when it
was stopped at a red light in Valencia,
Calif.
They also allege that the crime took
place after they were told by a Los
Angeles County Sheriff's deputy that
they were not allowed to tamper with
the crime scene in any way whatsoever.
If both are convicted as charged, they
could face a maximum of four years, six
months in county
jail.
The charges come just one day after a
massive unofficial memorial rally and
car cruise took place around the loop
where Walker and Rodas died.
Thousands of Walker fans and car
enthusiasts came together to place
flowers at the site and remember the

Iyayi Burial: What made ASUU Members Boo Reverend Father
Reverend Father Andrew Obinyan, a
Catholic priest, angered the members
of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) on December 6,
2013, when he appealed to them to call
off the strike and trust the Federal
Government on meeting their demands
during Festus Iyayi's commendation
service.
The visibly angry ASUU members
interrupted Rev. Obinyan and refused
to say amen to some prayers offered by
him, and shouted on him to leave the
podium.
Rev. Obinyan was booed while giving
his homily at the commendation
service held for the former President of
ASUU, Prof. Festus Iyayi at the
University of Benin.
In his address, the priest advised ASUU
not to give the Federal Government the
privilege of satisfaction of fighting and
defeating them, stating that he
discovered that many ASUU members
were retreating, as well as collapsing
their structures.
Rev. Obinyan further urged ASUU to
trust the Federal Government to keep
to its promise by calling-off the strike:
"My appeal is to request you to make
surrender the tool of power. Do not give
the FG the privilege of satisfaction of
fighting and defeating you. We rely on
that voice. We believe in that voice. I
humbly request you to surrender first
in this fight. You have made your point
eloquently and clear enough. I know the
Federal Government cannot be trusted
because of their antecedent, but I
request you to please trust them now.
"ASUU will never lose by it. They will
gain by it. Be assured of our prayers.
We are at the receiving end. Many of
your foot soldiers are collapsing. Some
are retreating", the priest said.
On hearing that most of ASUU
members started shouting, so Rev.

appeal is because of the sufferers."

South Africa's first black president and
an enduring icon of the struggle against
racial oppression, died on Thursday, the
government announced, leaving the
nation without its moral center at a
time of growing dissatisfaction with the

white minority government, only to

Kenyan Man Jailed For Raping Goat, Goat Is Witness In Court
A Kenyan man found guilty of having
sex with a goat was forced to come face
to face with his victim, after the animal
was brought into court as a witness.
Katana Kitsao Gona, 28, has been jailed
for 10 years after admitting sexually
abusing the animal in the Kenyan town
of Malindi.
The nanny goat, which was presented
to the magistrate, according to The
Sun, showed little emotion as she
watched from the corner of the court
room as her attacker was jailed.
The court heard Gona was caught when
a local resident found him naked in a
field having sex with the grazing goat,
which was tied up, The Star reported.
The goat's owner was alerted and
arrived at the scene with other
residents who also witnessed the sordid
scene.
He was arrested by police and a medical
examination confirmed sexual abuse
had taken place.
Gona told the court his wife is disabled
and depends on him but was
nevertheless jailed.
Kenyan media said it was rare for
animals to be presented as evidence in
court cases, the Mirror reported.

London where he was hospitalized

stomach-related ailment. Sahara

FG’s sack threat for ASUU members ‘ll fail – Aturu
LAGOS — Lagos based lawyer and
activist, Barrister Bamidele Aturu,
yesterday, dismissed the Federal
Government's sack threat to striking
university lecturers, saying that
government has failed to appreciate the
rot in the university system. Rather, he
said government should meet the
demands of Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU.
Aturu, who spoke at the 6th Annual Law
and Social Development lecture and
public presentation of a book, 'Law and
Practice of the National Industrial
Court," at Lagos Airport Hotel, said it is
"sad" that the Fededral Government
has failed to appreciate the rot in the
university system which ASUU wants
corrected," adding that members of
ASUU would not be cowed by such
threats.
Condemning the "resume or be sacked"
order, Mr. Aturu said: "The truth of the
matter is that we no longer have
universities in Nigeria. This explains
why many people among the ruling
class have their children and wards in
foreign universities.
"The demands of ASUU in my view are
legitimate and patriotic. The
government should do everything
possible to meet those reasonable
demands in order for our schools to be
reopened as quickly as possible."
He recalled attempts by previous
military governments to cow ASUU
which failed, and warned that the threat
of the education minister will also fail.
The guest lecturer, Professor Sofiri Joab-
Peterside of the Department of
Sociology, Universtity of Port Harcourt,
who spoke on 'The Economy, the
Rogues and the Law: The Development
Conundrum,' noted that, "the average
Nigerian lives on less than one dollar a
day. There are no roads, just as the
public hospitals themselves are "dead"
and the high education sector
practically broken with ASUU on strike
for more than four months over the
Federal Government's unfulfilled
agreement, while the culture of
impunity has become an integral part of
the norm of political appointees."
Also, Barrister Aturu, who insisted that
those responsible for the accident that
killed Professor Festus Iyayi be brought
to book, said, "Iyayi did not die in an
accident, he was murdered, pure and
simple.
"We reiterate our call for the driver of
the escort vehicle that snuffed the life
out of this noble champion of the
oppressed to be fished out and
prosecuted. They may have privatised
the economy; we won't let them
privatise our lives."
He also dismissed the on- going
National Conference, saying that it will
not achieve the objectives of the
original proponents of the idea. Though,
he spoke against the decision to
boycott it, suggesting that progressive
organisations should use the forum to
state their views on the state of the
nation.

Married female police officer caught having s*x with drug dealer during undercover operation
after being caught having sex during an
undercover drug operation, according to police reports in Arizona. The police officer had an affair with the
drug dealer, who she was investigating,
and blew the cover of the investigation
while she lay in bed with him.
Tempe Police Detective Jessica Dever-
Jakusz, 38, met her lover in June 2013,
following an undercover purchase of
narcotics, and in August, she was
having sex with him at his home on an
ongoing basis.
On October 10, after having sex, Dever-
Jakusz, who is married to a police
officer, revealed that she was working
undercover to arrest him.
Police detained the drug dealer for
questioning, and he admitted to having
a sexual relationship with the
undercover detective, Dever-Jakusz.
Dever-Jakusz is a 13 year veteran of the
police force.
The drug dealer revealed explicit text
messages he exchanged with Dever-
Jakusz, including one in which she was
asking him for permission to come over
to his house later that day.
The affair ruined the five month
undercover investigation, which is
nicknamed Molly.
The drug dealer told police that he was
surprised when Dever-Jakusz told him
she was a police officer actively trying
to send him to prison.
Tempe Police said that no charges will
be filed against the suspect with whom

not to endanger the lives of their
children and wards by sending them to
their university campuses.
ASUU which also told its members not
to sign attendance registers in their
institutions, lashed out at the Federal
Government for lack of consistency in
its statements on the ongoing strike.
The Supervising Minister of Education,
Mr. Nyesom Wike, had at a news
conference in Abuja on Thursday,
warned that any ASUU member that
failed to resume on or before
Wednesday would be sacked.
Wike also directed vice-chancellors to
advertise vacancies (internal and
external) in their institutions.
He told the vice-chancellors to open
attendance registers for lecturers that
resumed in their universities.
The Federal Government then directed
the Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji
Mohammed Abubakar, to deploy
policemen in all the federal universities.
On Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan,
who described the strike by the
university teachers as a "subversive
action," added that ASUU had ceased to
be a trade union.
But the Chairman, University of Ibadan
chapter of ASUU, Dr. Segun Ajiboye,
said parents should keep their children

not making any new demands as the
supervising minister is propagating.
Government is only repeating a 'one act
play' scripted by the IBB dictatorship in
early 90s. It didn't work then, and, it
won't work now. All branches are intact.
We cannot be intimidated.
"If ASUU could withstand Babangida,
this government cannot threaten us.
We have worked this road before, the
only thing that will work is peaceful
resolution. It is sad that government
wants to sack us because we are asking
for the resolutions. We are ready to be
sacked but government should learn
from the University of Ilorin experience.
We are going to stay the course."

does the job of the devil and that
time is fast approaching when the
Catholic church will pledge
allegiance to Satan.

to come to the rescue of Catholics
and evangelise them. This, he

corruption has only gotten worse in the
past two years.

International has released its 2013
Global Corruption Barometer, which
surveyed residents in 107 countries.
The world's corrupt nations differ in
many ways. Four are located in Africa,
three in Latin America and two in Asia.
These nations also vary considerably in
size and population. Mongolia has just
3.2 million residents, while Mexico,
Nigeria and Russia are three of the
largest countries on the globe, each
with more than 100 million people.

In Nigeria, 84% of those surveyed by
Transparency International claimed
corruption had increased in the past
two years, a higher percentage than
almost any other country in the world.
Troublingly, 75% of those surveyed also
said the government was, at best,
ineffective at fighting corruption, worse
than in all but 10 countries. Nigeria is
heavily dependent on the oil industry,
yet the government refuses to act on
accusations the oil companies
underreporting the value of the
resources they extract and the tax they
owe by billions of dollars. Certain
transparency groups also blamed
politicians for encouraging corruption.
In 2012, Nigeria had just the 37th
largest GDP in the world, despite having
the world's seventh largest population.
7. Russia

According to 82% of individuals
surveyed, it is important to have
personal contacts to get anything done
in Russia's public sector. Additionally,
85% of Russians stated the government
was run by just a few large entities for
their own best interests. The only two
other countries where residents were
more likely to feel this way were
Lebanon and Cyprus. The latter was
known until recently as a haven for
Russian oligarchs' money. These hyper-
wealthy individuals often have close
political ties, which allowed many to
become wealthy during Russia's post-
Soviet privatization.
6. Paraguay

In few nations were personal
connections considered to be more
important than in Paraguay. As many as
88% of the country's residents said
such contacts were important in getting
things done within the public sector, a
higher proportion than all but two other
countries worldwide. This was also the
reasoning behind the majority of bribes,
with 63% of all such payments going
toward speeding up a service. Worse,
78% of residents noted that their
government had been either ineffective
or very ineffective at fighting
corruption, one of the highest
proportions worldwide.
5. Mexico

Globally, 53% of individuals surveyed
by Transparency International claimed
that corruption had risen in the past
two years. However, in Mexico, that
figure was 71% as the country's citizens
have become less tolerant of corruption.
In addition, 72% of those polled stated
the Mexican government was
ineffective in fighting corruption, while
78% claimed that having personal
contacts was either important or very
important in getting the public sector to
be helpful. Last year, the Institutional
Revolutionary Party (PRI) won elections
nationwide to return to power despite
previous allegations of heavy
corruption. In a July 2012 article, Time
magazine described corruption as "the
stubborn remnant of the PRI's seven
decades of authoritarian rule that is at
the heart of the drug lords' ability to
operate in Mexico."
4. Zimbabwe

Roughly 77% of those surveyed claimed
that corruption in Zimbabwe had risen
in the past two years, a higher
percentage than in all but a few other
countries. Potentially contributing to
this rise, longtime President Robert
Mugabe failed to keep past elections
free from violence and voting
irregularities. Mugabe's opponent is
likely far more popular with the people,
but the upcoming elections on July 31
could still end up rigged in the
Mugabe's favor. More than three-
quarters of residents stated that the
government was run largely or entirely
by a few entities acting in their own
best interests.
3. Venezuela

Venezuela's long-ruling socialist
president, Hugo Chavez, passed away
in March. Corruption was a concern in
Venezuela since before Chavez's first
election victory in 1998. His chosen
successor, Nicolas Maduro, has vowed
to end corruption, which has often been
associated with Venezuela's socialist
government. Before April's presidential
election, opposition candidate Henrique
Capriles claimed that nationalization of
private businesses allowed public
officials to control major industries for
personal profit. In Venezuela, 79% of
respondents said their nation's political
officials were corrupt, among the
highest percentages in the world.

Mongolia had one of the world's fastest
growing economies in 2012, when its
GDP rose an estimated 12.3%,
according to the IMF. But corruption has
been identified by USAID as a critical
threat to the country's continued
growth as well as to its democracy.
Corruption has become pervasive in the
country, after "rapid transition to
democracy and a market economy
created huge demands on bureaucracy
that lacks the [means] to prevent
corruption," according to the
organization. Encouragingly, less than
half of all people surveyed in the
country said that corruption had
increased in the past two years, versus
53% of respondents worldwide. Also,
while 77% of people considered public
officials to be corrupt, just 12%
believed the country's government to
be run by a few large, purely self-
interested entities.

The vast majority of Liberians surveyed

A world-leading 86% of residents who
spoke to Transparency International
claimed their government had been
either ineffective or very ineffective at
fighting corruption, while 96% of
residents claimed Liberia's legislature
was corrupt, also the highest
percentage of any nation. A stunning
75% of residents surveyed claimed they
had paid a bribe to secure some service,
trailing only Sierra Leone. In all, 80% of
the population had at one point been
asked to pay a bribe. Recently,
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf fired the
country's auditor general for corruption.

ESUT, UNN reopen Monday
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
, and the Enugu State University of
Science and Technology ( ESUT), said
their academic activities would resume
on Monday 2 December, two days
ahead of the 4 December deadline
given by the Federal Government to
university vice-chancellors to reopen
their universities. Academic staff who
have been on strike since 1 July were
also told to back to work before the
deadline or consider themselves
sacked.
Both ESUT and UNN made the
announcement about the resumption in
separate statements today.
The Registrar of the UNN, Mr Anthony
Okonta, in the statement, stressed that
"normal academic activities would
resume immediately.''

2012/2013 session to report to their
respective faculties and departments in
Nsukka and Enugu campuses.

Saheed drags ex wife Fathia to court over name
reportedly said he would soon stop his
ex wife, Fathia Balogun, from using his
name.
Saheed was quoted to have said "She is
my ex. As for my name that she is still
answering, the deed will be done soon.
The Nigerian law says that after three or
four years, you can do something about
it. If somebody wants to keep my name,
what of the new person coming in? This
has nothing to do with grudges."
And now, it looks as if Saheed is set to
do something about his threat.
A reliable source informed Saturday
Beats that the actor had taken his ex to
court insisting that she drop his name.
Recall also that Fathia had also
reportedly boasted in an interview last
year, that nobody could stop her from
using her name.
Fathia had said, "I laugh, my name is
Fathia Balogun and it's going to remain
Balogun; nobody can ever change that
and nobody can stop me from
answering that name."
When Saturday Beats contacted Saheed
over the recent development, the actor
chose to be evasive.
"I have told you that I don't like talking
about my private life. I will talk about
my new project. Go and meet those

said.

Why delve into development
issues?
I have considered the way Nigeria is
going and I thought she needs to grow
and develop. But while I was in the
public service, I couldn't make
comments on issues concerning
leadership in the country but I secretly
wrote articles which were published in
The Guardian, for instance, "Why the
Military Intrude in African Politics",
published in 1978.
I retired voluntarily from the Customs
and began thinking of how to write a
book that will encapsulate all my ideas
about leadership, growth and
development. By that, I tried in my
book,"Leadership & Developmental
Issues in Nigeria: A Search for
Development Strategies", to make a
distinction between growth and
development. Growth is simply
economic expansion where you produce
and people consume and it does not
translate to development. But
development is when Political
Leadership begin thinking in terms of
how to bridge the gap, that is
technological gap between us and
developed countries of the world.
This is done by building infrastructures,
mass transit fares to move people,
building aeroplanes, why can't we build
our own automobiles and automobile
parts and couple them in this country
and then sell to other countries? We
need industrialisation, technological
acquisition, development and adapting,
etc , these are ingredients for
development.
It is surprising that people say no we
can't develop that way but if you look at
developed countries of the world, they
are the most advanced in terms of
technology, they are the richest, and so,
Nigeria cannot continue to depend on
only one natural resource; selling of oil
and all that, otherwise, why are we
always broke? The answer is simply
because the profit or whatever money
we make from oil sales is not enough to
run the affairs of this country.
That is why we run borrowing from time
to time. We need to expand our
resource base, by industrialisation,
manufacturing and exporting,
producing food in abundance for
everybody then put prices down,
develop housing for people and when
you give them transportation in
addition to low cost housing, you don't
need to pay big money as salary
because they have transport and other
amenities.
Nigeria's level of development?
I will limit myself to this present
administration. It appears that because
President Jonathan is educated and
also, a science person, it seems to me
that for the first in the history of
Nigeria, we have someone who is
thinking about development. Jonathan
is such a leader, apart from Late
Yar'Adua who would have been such a
person but death stopped him too early.
But Jonathan stepped into his shoes
and seems to have gone further than
expectation as far as I am concerned. I
am speaking for myself. Jonathan is
talking about development, launching
of satellite, building our own
automobiles and all that because he is
the kind of president that has
development agenda for the nation.
Objective of the book?
My book is to create awareness and
arouse in the minds of political leaders
the need to bridge development,
technological and industrial gap
between us and advanced countries of
the world. Other countries will not take
us serious if we don't begin to put
necessary infrastructure in place, for
the nation's development.
Once again, Nigeria needs to grow and
develop and that is why I have in my
book, documented all the indices of
development which have been lacking
in the governance of Nigeria
How can Nigeria win the war
against corruption?

system of Governance should be
dropped because it is not conducive for
Nigerian polity. Parliamentary system
